National Circle of Excellence Award winner Beth Horner is celebrating her 25th year of performing, presenting workshops, conducting writing residencies and having a blast with students and teachers!
Beth’s innovative approach to workshops and writing residencies have garnered rave reviews. Brought into NASA (National Aeronautic and Space Administration) to conduct story workshops with engineers from NASA’S Jet Propulsion lab and educators from the Johnson Space Center prompted the following statement:
“I laughed and cried! From Beth we learned that our stories must be told.”
Kay Tobola, ARES Space Science Educator, Johnson Space Center, NASA
And, as 3rd grade teacher Beth Manders wrote of Beth’s writing workshops in her school,
“What an inspiration! My students can’t wait to write now!”
Beth’s story-performance workshops inspire every student to get up and tell a tale – whether a traditional folktale or a story from their family ancestry.
“Her enthusiasm for story and children radiated throughout our school!”
Richard L. Best, Principal, Sprague School, Lincolnshire, IL
Beth’s assembly offerings include 18 curriculum based performances plus some for just good fun. From historical Civil War heroes to hysterical folktale tricksters, from the humorous tale of a mid-west town’s musical environmental triumph to folk heroines across the world’s cultures, from delightfully spooky stories to tales of strength, character and cleverness, Beth’s repertoire is noted for its depth, diversity and just plain pizzazz!
“This was the best assembly we’ve had! You really know kids!”
Sally Differding, Rogus School, Frankfort, IL
As comfortable with elementary school students and middle-schoolers as she is with preschoolers and high-schoolers, Beth’s energetic style peppered with music and participation leaves NASA engineers and school students alike excited, engaged and challenged.
Beth develops programs for each audience and situation. She has performed for the National Storytelling Festival, Illinois Reading Council, The National Council of Teachers of English, NASA (National Aeronautic and Space Administration), on Live From National Geographic and for thousands of school students!
“You are the funniest lady on this WHOLE planet!”
3rd Grader, John Mills School, Elmwood Park, IL
