David HB Drake
Parents Choice Magazine award winner for Children’s Recordings, “WAMI” Award winner / Family Music Artist of the Year
David HB Drake is the real thing-a folksinger with a lifetime of singing for folks everywhere a handcrafted song is needed.
David has toured the Midwest for the past 25 years presenting a wide variety of
educational and entertaining programs and residencies for all ages. David performs for schools, libraries, and the whole community playing a variety of instruments including
guitar, handmade banjo, dulcimer, concertina, and Native American flute.
•HEARTLAND and WISCON-SING:
The histories of Illinois (Heartland) and Wisconsin (Wiscon-sing) are presented with songs, stories, handmade instruments, and over 120 historic and scenic slides illustrating the songs! “Sing-along” slides assist the audience with the words. David also presents “Illinois Day” and “Wisconsin Day” residencies. Following the performance, David visits classrooms so kids can ask all the history questions they like, write songs about history with David, or whatever appropriate activity serves the school.
•THE ILLUSTRATED SONG:
Many popular folk songs have been illustrated as children’s books. David presents the pages of these artfully done books projected as sing-along slides while he sings the original songs and the audience sees the pages and words. The music goes full circle from the song to the book and back to singing together as a family to the “illustrated songs”. Great for evening family and reading events!
•KIDSTUFF:PARENTS CHOICE AWARD winner!
A sing-along hootenanny for kids featuring some of America’s favorite folk tunes for younger ages. Always available as a library summer reading program event!
•WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD:
These songs teach kids to live together with respect for themselves, each other, and the world we live in. Every day is Earth Day with recycled and earth-friendly songs.
•GATHER THE FAMILY:
In these times we need to gather with our families to give thanks for each other and take to time the share a song. This evening concert of peace, love, and hope for the future is for all generations.
•POTLUCK: A potpourri of songs especially for multigenerational audiences warm as a patchwork quilt.
•A SAILOR’S SONGBAG: songs of the Great Lakes, shanties, and sailing ships from a real live old sailor.
